Breathing in yoga sounds simple, but this is one of those things that newbies can hardly control well. In this article, Nguyen will share with you 4 tips to help you breathe better when practicing Yoga, helping you increase the effectiveness of your practice.
1. Practice breathing through your nose
Breathing through your nose will make your lungs stronger, help body purification and warm the qi before entering your body. If you find it difficult to breathe through your nose, use your mouth to help.
2. Practice deep breathing with the diaphragm
This is a skill that takes practice over time. Diaphragm breathing commonly known as belly breathing will help you breathe more deeply, help you reduce stress, better body feel and deeper muscle relaxation. It also strengthens your core.
You can practice diaphragmatic breathing using the Sphinx pose:
- Stand on your forearms and breathe evenly.
- Feel your belly move and hold this position for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
3. Reach up to inhale, bend down to exhale
A tip to help you remember how to breathe when practicing Yoga is that most movements that tend to rise or raise your body will breathe in and when you bend down or lower down, you will tend to exhale.
4. Breathe evenly according to your breathing rate
A final tip is if you can't catch your breath in time for the teacher's count or you feel the teacher's count is too fast, breathe at your own pace. It will help you feel more comfortable and breathe easier while exercising.
